A note about Audrey from a ChangeMaker Teacher:
"Audrey truly understands and loves all of our students. She embraces our CMA students who have learning disabilities with an open mind and an open heart. Audrey ALWAYS focuses on the positive and always finds a creative way to work through the “tough” days. The growth that her students have made have far exceeded expectations. Her students fight over her and tell her they love her! All of Audrey's hard work and dedication shows in the progress she has made with all of her scholars in such a short period of time. We thank Audrey for showing our CMA community that ALL of our students have such a bright future."
Learn all about Audrey:
I am from a small town called Hanford, located in the central valley of California. Previously I worked for the same district (8 years) as the Site Lead of an extended learning program. I received my BA in Early Childhood Development at Fresno Pacific University. It was during a few courses in my program that I knew I wanted to teach special education. I had recently moved to Vallejo and began as a preschool teacher until I heard about Caliber and the opening of the position I had been hoping for. The moment I stepped foot on the ChangeMakers Campus for my interview I knew this was the place for me. I had always imagined teaching in an environment where all teachers + staff carry the same heart and vision in guiding students towards success in all aspects. ChangeMakers Academy is definitely that place and I am honored every day to work alongside such incredible students and staff.
A recent interview with Audrey:
What is your favorite thing about teaching Sped at CMA?
My favorite thing about teaching special education at CMA is that our students are eager to learn. As soon as they walk in the door, their smiles say it all: they are ready for what’s in store for the day and they look forward to checking their visual schedules and making sure they haven’t missed a step.
What was your favorite subject growing up?
My favorite subject has always been reading. I still remember memorizing lines from Dr. Suess’ Green Eggs and Ham. Today, children’s books are still my favorite.
Did you always think you were going to become a teacher?
I have always known that I would either work with animals or as a teacher.
What is your favorite candy bar or sweet treat?
Hot or cold weather my favorite sweet treat is definitely ice cream! Cookies and cream or chocolate.
If you could go on a dream vacation, what would you do + where would you go?
If I could go on a dream vacation it would definitely be somewhere warm and sunny. I would appreciate a tropical place that has lots of trails for hiking and exploring. Also a place with a nice beach to try surfing!
What is your favorite thing about the Bay Area (or specifically about Vallejo!)?
My favorite thing about Vallejo is the diversity. I appreciate the reconstruction that is being done throughout the city. I also love jogging around the waterfront and appreciate the nice weather!
What is one fun fact that most people don't know about you?
Two years ago I competed in a Crossfit competition (weight-lifting, gymnastics, and lots of cardio!). Since then I have had a love for the sport, although I haven't been as consistent as previous years. I am currently working out in a Crossfit gym located in American Canyon where I am trying to make it at least four times a week!
